Auto Accident Chiropractor Colorado Springs
Whether you’re involved in a low-speed parking lot fender bender or a high-speed freeway collision, your body has sustained a degree of trauma. You may experience symptoms such as headaches, numbness and tingling down your arms and legs, muscle spasms, back pain and whiplash, just to name a few. But symptoms can be expressed differently by each individual.
‘But It Was Just a Minor Accident’
Because adrenaline runs high following an accident many people don’t experience pain until a few days later. You may be tempted to tell yourself that the pain will eventually go away and you’ll be fine. However, when the cause of your pain and symptoms following an auto accident go undetected and uncorrected they usually worsen and become harder to correct. We recommend getting an evaluation as soon as possible following an accident. Hospitals will be looking for the big, bad and scary things (fractures and dislocations) but as chiropractors, we will fine-tune patients’ care by providing specific correction”.
What to Expect
First Visit
Before you come in for your first appointment, you will have some steps to take, including calling YOUR auto insurance company and opening up a claim (even if it wasn’t your fault). Colorado utilizes MEDpay, which is a very helpful rider on your personal auto insurance to specifically cover the cost of any medical bills incurred due to your motor vehicle accident. Rest assure, using medpay will not impact your insurance or premiums. Then, we will have you complete specific paperwork. You will initially meet with our doctors and give an account of what happened during the accident. We also will get all of your insurance information from you to move forward with a claim. After we understand your account of what happened, we will perform the following:
- Palpation exam
- X-rays
- Range-of-motion testing
- Bilateral weight scale assessment to see how weight is being distributed
The doctors will determine if you will receive treatment that day to begin to alleviate discomfort (which is most likely) or you may have to come back within 24-48 hours depending on the severity of your accident. That will give us ample time to evaluate your X-rays to provide the most effective adjustment possible.
Second Visit
If you did not get adjusted on the first day our doctors will walk you through your first adjustment at this appointment.
During this appointment, we will show you your X-rays, analysis and go over your treatment plan. We will be sure to discuss exactly what insurance covers prior to moving forward. We also will provide you with recommendations on home rehab, including stretching, strengthening and guidance with ice and heat application to alleviate pain and speed up the recovery process.
Progressive Reexaminations
Reexaminations will be provided to track your progress. For example, your treatment plan may involve treatment three times a week for multiple weeks. At the end of that period, we will perform a reexamination. We’ll look at different objectives and pain scales and say, for example, “Here’s where you were before the accident. Here’s where you are because of the accident, and here’s where you are now.” If we see that you’re moving in the right direction we can begin to decrease the frequency of your visits until you reach “pre-accident status.” Our reassessment process is important because, even though your treatment may take longer, investing in proper care now can prevent you from suffering over the long term.
